INTRODUCTIONYou for your
interest in Eau Claire Anesthesiologists, Ltd. To introduce you to our
organization, it may be helpful to look at the history of our group and
how it originated. In 1956, two
anesthesiologists, Dr. Harry Thimke and Dr. Robert Bjurstrom came to Eau
Claire to start their practice of anesthesiology. Together they formed
Eau Claire Anesthesiologists. As the years passed and the community of
Eau Claire grew, so did ECA. By 1986, ECA had increased in sized to not
only nine (9) anesthesiologists but the seven certified registered nurse
anesthetists originally employed by the two hospitals in town, joined
the group to form the care team that is still in place today.
The group has grown
immensely since 1986 and can currently boast about a care team comprised
of almost 18-plus MD’s and 30-plus CRNAs. In addition to the two
original area hospitals, Luther Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospitals, ECA
also provides anesthesia services to the patients of Oak Leaf Surgical
Hospital.
As much as the group
and the area have grown, ECA has continued to offer personal service and
a team approach to anesthesia care. We are proud of the excellent
service we are able to provide as a care team to not only our patients
but the facilities as well.
ECA has been
fortunate to work together with such a caring team of talented CRNAs and
MDs. Providing services at several in town provides a variety of
challenges and experiences to everyone as well as offering the
opportunity to work with an expanded care team of excellent nurses,
aides, and surgeons at each facility.

opportunities, please feel free to contact our office.
THE COMMUNITY One of the greatest
assets ECA is privileged to enjoy is the community of Eau Claire
itself. Set in the beauty of the north woods, Eau Claire sits along the
banks of the Chippewa River. Residents of Eau Claire and the
surrounding communities enjoy the advantages of a small city (pop.
65,000) that is scenic and beautiful. Recreational activities abound
including hiking and biking trails, water sports, cross country ski
trails, community sports leagues, as well as numerous golf courses just
to name a few.
Eau Claire has also
been redeveloping its riverfront and downtown area. In particular,
Phoenix Park has quickly become a great place for singles, families, and
seniors alike to enjoy a variety of live music and activities along with
the other parks throughout the city. The permanent structure for the
local Farmers Market has provided a great new venue and meeting place
for all to enjoy. The city is continuing to focus on the revitalization
of the downtown area drawing new businesses and restaurants to the area
for all to enjoy.
Eau Claire also
enjoys a strong musical and theatrical community. Musical performances
in many forms can be found from numerous choral and musical groups, to
University groups, as well as our own local Chippewa Valley Symphony
Orchestra. Theatrical performances are plenty in the offering too
including the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre, the Chippewa Valley Theatre
Guild, University sponsored theatrical performances and the Fanny Hill
Dinner Theatre. The Eau Claire Regional Arts Center located in the
historical State Theatre also provides musical and theatrical
performances by groups from across the country.
Serving as the major
regional hub for the area, Eau Claire also provides plenty of shopping
and eating establishments for all tastes from picturesque restaurants
and dinner theaters to quaint coffee shops and café’s. The Oakwood Mall
provides a major shopping complex and there are several multiplex movie
theaters in the area.
Educationally, Eau
Claire flourishes with many fine public and parochial schools. Both
elementary and secondary students consistently score higher than the
state and national averages in ACT and SAT tests. The Eau Claire School
District was recognized for the quality of education and resources
available to students in 1999 and is ranked third in the top 15 school
districts in the nation.
Eau Claire is also
home to approximately 11,000 University of Wisconsin students and 3,500
full time students at the Chippewa Valley Technical College. U.S. News
& World Report ranks UWEC among the top 3 public regional university in
the Midwest. Devoted to excellence, UWEC is proud to be considered on
of the most beautiful campuses in Wisconsin.
Finally, Eau Claire
is proud of the national recognition it has received for its low crime
rates and appreciates being considered within the top 10 safest cities
in America. Obviously, this provides a positive environment for
individuals, families and seniors alike.
Eau Claire is a
great place for home, work, and play. Just an hour and a half from
Minneapolis/St. Paul, one can enjoy the advantages of daily living in a
smaller community along with the advantages of a larger metropolis just
a short drive away. Eau Claire Anesthesiologists, Ltd is proud to call
Eau Claire their home.
TEAM APPROACH
ECA is committed to
the team approach to anesthesia. The usual schedule has one MD working
typically with two (2) CRNAs. CRNAs are involved with all types of
cases. On average we run 20 operating rooms between the different
facilities all located here in Eau Claire. One CRNA is on call at each
of the two (2) major hospitals and MDs come in for all OR cases.
Our team currently
consists of 18-plus MDs and 30-plus CRNAs. These numbers give us
tremendous flexibility to move people to different cases when needed.
For example, on ruptured aneurysms, it is not uncommon for us to have
four team members taking care of the patient.
We feel this
flexibility gives our patients the best anesthesia care possible. We
hope you agree and will consider becoming a part of our team.
